SLIGO VOLUNTEER WEEK RESOUNDING SUCCESS

Sligo Volunteer organised a hugely successful Volunteer Week from 26th September-30th September to mark the European Year of Volunteering 2011.

Events in Ballymote, Grange and Sligo Town led to lots of potential volunteers meeting voluntary groups throughout the week,’ says Manager of the Volunteer Centre Ciara Herity. Speaking after a week long series of event throughout the county to encourage Volunteering, she stated: ‘The response to events was excellent. Many people who had been thinking of volunteering but were waiting to be asked came in to the events and found out more.’

Stands at the Volunteer Fairs were kept busy answering lots of questions. Throughout the week, fingers were kept sticky as hundreds of cupcakes were decorated in Sligo Volunteer Centre Colours.

Participants all over Sligo participated in the ‘Random Acts of Volunteering’ doing a good deed and using a card to ask the receiver to pass on the kindness.

The week finished with a Celebration Night in the Glasshouse Hotel. This Recognition Event acknowledged the ceaseless work of over 80 volunteers who attended the event from all over Sligo. The evening was attended by Marian Harkin who thanked all Volunteers for their work, especially during this, the European Year of Volunteering. Gifts for Volunteers were donated by Source Sligo, Kates Kitchen, Voya Seaweed Baths, and Good Food Ireland.

Sligo Volunteer Centre also wish to extend a huge Thank you to all of the volunteers who assisted with the run up to the events and on the day itself. Thanks to Katrina, Berenice, Airt, Christopher, Marian, Carole, Fiona, Georgina, Rhena & Syzmon.
