Sligo Volunteer Centre is a member of the growing national network of 22 centres supported by Volunteer Centres Ireland (VCI). Volunteer Centres Ireland’s mission is to support the development of a national volunteering infrastructure with a network of local Volunteer Centres at its heart.

Sligo Volunteer Centre is registered as a company limited by guarantee and is managed by a voluntary Board of Directors made up from representatives from:

Sligo County Council, The Health Service Executive North West Region, County Sligo LEADER Partnership Company  Ltd., Sligo Social Services, Sligo Community Forum, The Voluntary Youth Council, The Samaritans, Sligo Council of Trade Unions.

The Centre is staffed by Ciara Herity, the Coordinator;  Paula Naughton, Outreach & Development Officer & Riona Rochford, Placement Officer. 

Who funds the Centre?

The initial funding for the Development phase of the programme came from the Peace 11 Task Force. The core funding of the Volunteer Centre is from the Department of Community, Equality & Gaeltacht Affairs with support from Sligo County Council and Sligo LEADER Partnership.

Part of the role of the Board of Management is to secure funding on an annual basis.

Sligo Volunteer Centre have also received funding in the past from

  • The Community Foundation of Ireland
  • The Reception and Integration Agency
